PC won't shut down !

Hi,

I'm running Windows 7 64bit OEM on my PC and it won't shut down. I can't remember what happened before it started acting up.

Whenever I select shutdown from the menu, the PC shuts down, and then it starts right back on by itself. I'm sure I didn't press the reset button

This issue has been bugging me for quite some time now and I think this is my second thread about it. I tried searching up for solutions but to no avail.

Please Help !

Possibly, but not likely.

In Device Manager, are any devices shown with a problem? This is often the sign of a ACPI driver error or simply missing. What make/model is the motherboard?

Motherboard model is the Asrock B75 Pro3-M

Is this a fairly new build or an older build? Did you load the full chipset drivers for the system? Are all devices showing good in Device Manager?

From device manager, I found that the
1. Ethernet Controller
2. SM Bus Controller
3. USB Controller

Have problems.

This build is less than a year old but has gone through MOBO reset once and some upgrades.

Where can I update chipset drivers and what are they ?

SM Bus is the culprit. Drivers can be found here:

It is part of the motherboard chipset drivers. You can go here and run the Check Your System for Updates tool and you can automatically detect and update needed drivers.

In short, the SM Bus handles the communications of on-board devices, including telling the system how to shut-down properly.

Did you run the tool on the Intel link?

If not, get this and run it:

You need to install the chipset drivers.

I updated the drivers for that. PC still doesn't shutdown. The only way I can shutdown the PC is to either turn off the PSU or hold the power switch on the case.
