Hey,
If I were to buy a Asus Xonar DGX 5.1 sound card, and connect some stereo headphones, would I get surround sound / virtual surround sound on my headphones ? If not is there any other way to simulated surround sound with stereo headphones?

Thanks.

I've tried it in a game (Guild Wars 2) and it does sound different, I think it's personal preference and i did some tweaking before I started playing the game as there was a lot of options to change in the Asus software. I'd recommend you just go for it and buy it, they're not very expensive and you may like it!

You'd have to connect your stereo headphones via 3.5mm audio jacks and not USB for it to utilise the soundcard. The soundcard will come with the Xonar DG Audio Center software which will do virtual surround sound. I've got this soundcard myself and have tried the virtual surround on normal (stereo) headphones.

I've never tried it properly myself as I've never had the need. For music it's not very good as it makes the music sound more distant and faded, but if you're playing a game you may like it due to hearing where the action is happening a bit easier. this would however require the game or audio source to output 7.1 channel sound, otherwise it's literally making up the location of the speakers.

Could you try and give me some feedback?
Thanks
