Hello everyone and Thanks for any advice.

My Intel core 2 duo @ 2.33Ghz, 2Gb of RAM and a fried NVIDIA 9800 GT obviously just doesn't cut the mustard now (Or for the past 5 years).

Therefore I have decided to treat myself to a first time build, of which i have chosen all of the parts shown below.

CPU Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core £233.99
CPU Cooler Phanteks PH-TC14PE 78.1 CFM £66.98
Motherboard MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming ATX LGA1150 £127.37

Memory Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 LP £110.59
Video Card MSI GeForce GTX 780 3GB LIGHTNING £429.34
Storage Crucial M500 240GB 2.5" SSD £77.99
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM £52.79

Power Supply Corsair 850W ATX12V / EPS12V £104.00
Optical Drive Pioneer BDR-209DBK Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer £52.75
Monitor Asus VG278HE 27.0" £319.52
Custom NVIDIA 3D Vision 2 Kit £110.00
Case Fan Noctua NF-A14 PWM 82.5 CFM 140mm £17.80
Noctua NF-A14 PWM 82.5 CFM 140mm £17.80
Noctua NF-A14 PWM 82.5 CFM 140mm £17.80
Total: £1738.72

A few points first: I will be overclocking moderately (CPU and GPU) within the confines of air cooling. I am in/buying from the UK. The main purpose of this build is for gaming (In 3d as well), but I also do some music production and 3D CAD which can be CPU demanding (though not beyond that of any semi-decent processor). The Budget? Well i started out at about £500 without the monitor and I'm now up to this so I'd say fairly flexible :wahoo:

I have allready brought and just recieved the GTX 780 lightning, Windows 8.1 and the Phanteks PH-TC14PE. I didn't want to jump the gun and buy parts before finishing the list but they were at prices I couldn't refuse.

The advice I am seeking then please. Is there any parts you would change of this list?

I am torn between the i7-4770k and the i5-4670k, I have noticed that most people say stick to the i5 (It's about £70 cheaper here), but i like newer and shinier, I'm also banking on next gen games utilizing HT. Am I being ignorant?

I will be seeking to SLI the gtx 780 at a later date, so will the Corsair RM850 cope with this and overclocking also bearing in mind the degrading of parts (caps) over time. Would a RM1000 or EVGA 120-G2-1000-XR be better suited?

Also I'm torn between the Asus VG278HE monitor and the VG248QE, The 24" seems to be the preferred for its performance, but bigger does allways seem better. I was hoping to hold out for a G-sync monitor but it just seems like they are going to be too expensive for my taste when they actually release them.

You may also notice I have not added a Case, any advice on cases that would fit the gtx 780 sli and the phanteks cooler would be great

I apolagise for the long winded question's, but I would rather that, than irritate you with short lazy one's. I would greatly appreciate any input.

Many thanks
Karl

Hey Karl,
We'll that is a gigantic step forward from your old rig.

First of all, I suggest getting a Z97 mobo as they are better in over clocking .Personally, I recommend any of the following mobos depending on your budget :-
-Z97-G45 Gaming 122£
-Z97-GD65 Gaming 146£
-Z97 Gaming 7 134£

There are the mpower mobos from msi but they are ridiculously expensive.

For the ram, I recommend getting the Kingston hyperx beast 16gb (2x8gb) 2400MHz CL11 for 124£ . I also recommend getting 8gb of ram as they are more than enough .There are also Kingston hyperx beast 8gb (2x4gb) 2400MHz CL11 for 57.99£
. And I'm sure corsair has 8gb (2x4gb) 1600MHz if you prefer it for 61.62£.

I personally love to have the latest CPU . But there isn't that much...

I personally love to have the latest CPU . But there isn't that much of a difference between the 4670k and the 4770k . And if I were you i would get the 4670k and get a 5th generation cpu when intel releases them. But if you are not planning on upgrading it go with the 4770k.

For a case,if you don't care about the price get a HAF X for 131£ ,it's one of the best out there . Or get the NZXT Phantom as they are prettier and cheaper for 73£.

Many thanks A7madfmj, your help is greatly appreciated.

I'm embarrassed to say I never even saw the Z97 MSI Mobo's so thanks for that I will get the Z97-GD65 Gaming.

With regards to the RAM, I was looking at the Hyperx beast, but I have seen many people say that higher than 1600/1866Mhz is not worth it for gaming, and can restrict the overclock-ability of the CPU. Is there any truth behind this?

Any advice with regards to the PSU? Do you think the Corsair RM850 will be adequate?

Thanks for your input and time
Karl
