hp pavilion, xp sp1, want to install sp2 or sp3... the computer will sometimes boot 'ebcd' disc (linux), but usually it boots the windows install on the HD. CD is listed as boot device before HD, but it will not boot from the 'bootable' WinXP sp2' CD that I used successfully on another computer only a week ago... help...

thanks guys... i found installation files for sp2 and sp3... thing is, the install of sp2 appeared to 'complete', and then while 'finishing' it seemed to fail, sending a report to MS, and referring me to PCTools, which is no longer supported. (?) But this morning, I found that AIDA reported sp2 was installed yesterday, and then i checked 'system' and found it reports sp2 as well.
i am now trying to install sp3 to see if it succeeds as well...
