Is AHCI enabled!?! BIOS calls my SSD "IDE:"

I can't for the life of me figure out if my SSD is running in AHCI or IDE!

I installed Win 8.1 with AHCI set in the BIOS on my SSD. My mobo is the M5A88V_EVO.

ASUS provides no chipset drivers for Win 8/8.1, so I got the AMD Chipset, AHCI, and USB 3.0 drivers.

WHY IT COULD BE ENABLED

1. When I run AS SSD Benchmark, it says storahci:

2. When I check in cmd, it says trim is enabled.

WHY IT ISN'T ENABLED

1. In the BIOS, with AHIC selected for Storage Configuration, it doesn't list the ATA devices. Even worse... my SSD is listed as:

IDE: ADATA SSD S510.

2. The sequential read/write speeds are horrendous, even though the OS feels snappy

I'm close to rage quitting and just installing Windows 7. Maybe my mobo isn't meant to run Windows 8.

Solution
Your AS-SSD benchmark shows storahci - OK, which confirms that your SSD is in AHCI mode.

Advertised speeds for your SSD using AS-SSD are up to 200MB/s Read and 70MB/s Write. http://us.adata.com/index.php?action=product_specification&cid=3&piid=136&lan=us

If you are looking for the advertised 550/500 Read/Write speeds then you have to benchmark with ATTO.

Your AS-SSD benchmark results indicate that you are getting 129% of advertised Reads and 142% of advertised Writes.

AS-SSD uses highly incompressible data to test Read/Write speeds. Highly incompressible data is the hardest type of data for any SSD to Read or Write.

ATTO uses highly compressible data to test Read/Write speeds. Highly compressible data is the...
It does look like you are not running full speed.

It is normal to see IDE/atapi as the drive controllers in device manager even if the sata mode is ahci.
What you may be missing are the drivers for your motherboard, particularly the sata device drivers.

Yeah... I can't for the life of me find these drivers. So, looks like my MOBO only partially supports Windows 8 and I'll have to go back to Windows 7

Thanks... I found those after a lot of searching.

I still don't get why in my BIOS it shows IDE: in front of my SSD that's apparently running in AHIC. Oh well... at least I'm getting the speeds I should be. I guess I'll stick with Windows 8.

Thanks again for the help.
