Sapphire page says power requirement for Tri x 290 is 750W. isnt that too much for a single card?
I own a 750W Seasonic Gold PSU , but afraid to be just on the edge. I like having a bit buffer for future OC's and extra hds.

Thats really there to cover them when people buy cheap low quality PSUs, a quality 750w will handle that card + what you need just fine.

You can look here on test which contains also r9 290x tri-x oc.
It in german but last table on page shows that power consumption.

It shows 398W for whole system from socket during load. If you take into account efficiency (they use seasonic platinum so worst case is 90% you look into roughly 360W for whole system (ofc power drained from socket may be better limit). That is using i7-3960x. And R9 290x which have little higher power consumption.

If you take into account possible power spikes 650-750 will be nice. You can go also with 500-550W but that would be close and you would need quality PSU which can handle it and which can handle even power spikes going above projected 500/550W.

So to be safe 650W atleast and if you want to plug in lot of other stuff 750W may be nice.

Also you can refer to this site for recommender W for PSU (for whole system).
