video players for new self built computer

I recently built a gaming pc and want to watch bluray movies and normal dvd movies but windows 8 came with no video player software what is out there that supports bluray I have already tried vlc but it didnt work preferably free

If you are really wanting to play blue-ray on your computer, you can try

this http://www.videohelp.com/tools/PotPlayer. You will have problems with it as well, but it is free.

I would go with a trial version of Cyberlink PowerDVD and then save up to get the full license, for a better experience.
