Can I use old laptop hard drive in new PC

Hi, looking to build a new PC but i dont want to have to spend £60 on a hard drive and £70 for windows 7 when i have the hard drive from my old laptop that already has windows 7 installed. Am i able to use it with the new PC? It is SATA and SATA power cable too just like an SSD. Alot of people said this wont work and might ruin the components of new system and others say it will 100% work? please help

You can use the old hard drive but not the OS. The OS is dedicated to the computer on which it was installed.

You MUST buy a new windows 7/8 license. technically you could reuse the laptop harddrive but they are usually crap 5400 drives. better to get a real desktop drive

The physical drive will work (slowly)
The OS won't.

Sell the laptop and use the funds for an OS.
