To me, yes, I have both, the VII OCs better, takes faster DRAM, runs cooler....and leaves you open for CPU upgrades from Haswell Devils Canyon K model as well as the upcoming Broadwell down the road...Great mobo

All you mention are great mobos, it often falls into what your budget is, The Z87-A is sort of my preferred entry level Z87 for high performance, has good cooling OCs well, etc, the Pro is better with a little higher quality components and add ons (like Wifi), then at the top the is the Z87 Hero (built for performance/gaming, and to be honest I figured the Z97 would be a little better, but it's quite a bit better + it has the upgrade options open for Devils Canyon K model CPUs and then on into Broadwell when it arrives

The Pro has wifi, but of the two mobos I'd go the Hero, that's what I decided on (in sig), and the Z97 is even better than the Z87, Hero, I have both of them

My bad, was thinking the Z87 Pro, they dropped the wireless from the Z97, of the DRAM choices, all should work fine, I favor GSkill and wit the Haswell mobos normally look first to Snipers or Tridents, then Ripjaws X or Z
