Hello,

I have a PC with GIGABYTE G41M-Combo motherboard. I have been using it for quite a while. Recently I had to go out of town for a week and I left the PC shutdown. But when I came back and tturned on the PC, it is not detecting my USB devices. I ma using a USB keyboard and mouse and it fails to detect either of them. So I could get to Windows password screen but could not get past it becuase I am unable to enter anything.

So I bought a PS/2 keyboard an plugged-it in. The BIOS detects it and I can now log into windows. Next I went into BIOS settings and reset everything to defaults. But it made no difference.

So here is the scenario.

  • POST screen displays USB Controllers for 1.0 and 2.0 along with IRQ
All USB ports are receign power. Ican charge my mobile phone or camera using the ports
During booting, if I have a USB mass storage device plugged-in, BIOS tries to boot from it and displays erro (as the device is not bootable)
However BIOS does not detect USB devices.
USB Keyboard and mouse does not work - not even in Windows.
USB mass torage devices are not detected in Windows either - eventhough they light up
Windows does not make USB connected notification saounds anymore.

Addional info that may be relevant.
I also had a DSL router, whcih I connected though USB which was working fine. However now the router is not working. It is not even powering up. I opened it and found that it one of the chips is fried.

Is it possible that the USB controlelr chip on the motherboard is physically dmamged as a side-effect?

Should I get a new motherboard? OR can I rescue this one?

Thanks

Yes there was. And I believe thats why my router was fried. But does this mean my USB controller is also done for? How can I make sure?
Note that all my USB ports including front panel porst are malfunctioning.

I had already tried that and it was not working. So its fair to assume that the USB controller is fried. I have ordered a PCI-E USB 3 Expansion card. I hope that will work

Thanks for the help
