5.1 Audio through AMD Radeon R7 260x

To start this off, my setup is mostly cobbled together with spare stuff I had laying around the house. Right now I have a HP w1707 for my primary display via VGA, and a small 720p TV as my secondary display via HDMI. Right now I'm trying to get 5.1 audio from my graphics card, to my secondary display, and then to my A/V reciever via Digital Coaxial (my reciever doesn't support HDMI in) yet I can't seem to get 5.1 audio, or even send a signal from the source. I've tried messing with Realtek drivers, AMD Catalyst; everything. If anyone has a solution for me, I'd be happy to hear it.

EDIT: I downloaded the ATI HDMI driver from Realtek, which only disabled my display as a device, and now shows up as "Not plugged in" in the Windows sound panel, even though it is.

Digital-Coaxial uses the S/PDIF format. S/PDIF supports uncompressed mono and stereo formats only. 6 and 8 channel formats must be encoded into a Dolby Digital (AC3) or DTS bitstream. 6 and 8 channel uncompressed audio is possible over HDMI but not over S/PDIF.

In order to obtain the setup that you desire you must purchase an external encoder which can strip the audio packets out from the HDMI stream and encode them into an AC3 or DTS bitstream. My father has one that can extract an AC3/DTS stream from HDMI and pass it over S/PDIF-optical, but I don't know of any off hand that can perform the same with uncompressed audio.

I think I'd just be better off getting a sound card with TOSLINK out (I have a TOSLINK cable laying around) that also supports Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect. Thanks anyway.
