Watch Dogs and Wolfenstein Vram Requirements

So I have two GTX 680s with 2gb vram in SLI and i've been noticing that many of the upcoming games require more than 2gb vram to run on ultra especially when I first played Wolfenstein on my system and got....terrible performance to say the least :(. Now that I feel like my $2000+ computer turned into a bad investment simply because of 1gb vram increase in system requirements for future games, I feel like selling my entire pc quickly and never again look back to pc gaming or any gaming in general. So I guess my question is, do I have hope with these 2 cards? Is there any way to bypass this 1gb increase in vram requirement?

i7 4770k @ 4.2ghz
(2x) MSI GTX 680s SLI 2GB Vram :(
Corsair Vengeance 8gb ram 1600MHz
Crosair TX850w PSU
Corsair Hydro H70 Liquid Cooling
Samsong 840 EVO 250gb SSD
500gb Western Digital Blue HDD

You forgot to post your monitor. Its a key part that's missing. 2 x 1080's gaming or even 1 x 1440p then you are in trouble.

1 x 1080p then you should be fine.

Just check whether the game actually plays with SLI.
GeForce Experience should provide first look default game settings.

Just 1x1080p and Watch Dogs does use SLI, just not Wolfenstein yet. I heard the next Nvidia driver is going to add an SLI profile for Wolfenstein. The fact still remains that I will probably still be forced to upgrade my GPUs if I want to run new games on ultra again. Lets say I decide to sell my 2 gtx 680s to get a gtx 780, the SLI gtx 680s give pretty much the same performance as the gtx 780 except for the fact that my game won't have"loading texture lag" because of that 1gb extra vram in the gtx 780. The gtx 680 isn't even that old either. Its as if they just added a tiny additional requirement that made a 1-2 year old card "obsolete".It all feels like huge ripoff and a terrible investment.

Your 680's in SLI should blow both those games away at Ultra on 1080p

Watch Dogs isn't released yet (I think). But maybe Wolfenstein forums will give you some clues eg chhange msaa settings.

Does GeForce Experience make the settings for Wolfenstein or are you doing this yourself?

How's your pc running? Nothing overheating?

My PC has been running quite well since the day I got it. I never leave the computer running without monitoring cpu and gpu temps. Cpu never exceeds 48c and the gpus never exceed 60c. I never use Geforce Experience and I like to always set the settings myself. When I disable VT Compress and reduce max PPF then Wolfenstein runs fine with everything else on ultra (because it forces the game to use less than 2gb of vram and makes the game look shitty more than it already does). This is what I fear, that video game companies will continue to add higher and higher vram requirements and purposefully make the game look much worse when you reduce vram demanding video settings in their games.

"This game suffers from having its graphics options linked to VRAM capacity." this sounds like companies trying to add new gimmicky video settings to their games just to force pc gamers to buy new hardware that is 95% similar to what they already have. Just look at Wolfenstein with and without VT compress disabled, it still looks like crap whether it isn't maxed out or not so where is our money going and why are we upgrading to gpus with 3gbs of vram?

I'm honestly a little more concerned about Watch Dogs. I can probably run it on high instead of ultra, but it'll most likely look bad and run like shit too.

I suggest you sell your gtx 680's and get a 780 ti or 2x 780's with 6 gb of ram.

According the screen shots watch dogs requires 3 gb of vram @ 1080p, I pre ordered watch dogs and I hope if will be okay for me with my 780 ti @ 144op

Yeah...no, that probably won't work out too well or will end up taking way too long. BTW I've also heard that you have to use medium textures with 2gb and high with 3gb. Sounds like even the people who upgraded to 3gb vram cards will suffer too and won't be able to run it on ultra textures either. its baffling that the game defaults to Ultra textures for 3Gb cards or at least for GTX 780 / Ti cards. Sad, isn't it? lots of folks upgraded to 3Gb cards and got that Watch Dogs coupon only to get sub-optimal graphics. Consoles also use High textures, so the graphics 3Gb cards on High textures will look very much like on PS4, except for 1080p. I am afraid that if this game does NOT get bashed for its heavy requirement of 4Gb cards for Ultra textures, then other games will follow and 3Gb won't even cut it for 2014.
