Hey all,

I'm thinking about upgrading my GTX 670 DCU to either a R9-290x or GTX 780ti, but I'm worried my I5-2500K (at around 4.2ghz) will bottleneck it. If so, would it be wiser to upgrade the CPU instead?

So here I am hoping there's some godsent professionals around here that could help me out! Appreciate any and all effort!

your i5 CPU is strong enough, no bottleneck at all. The GTX 780Ti is the faster choice of GPU to get.

Agree with Unknownofprob, the current CPU is strong enough to drive either card.
Couple of other points, though.
The R9 290 and GTX780 are cheaper and only a little slower than their more expensive siblings.
Neither is going to really be able to strut its stuff on a single 1080 monitor, unless it's 120, 144 Hz or you're regularly using 3D.
This is an older system but still a capable one and the GTX670 is still a very strong card, do you really NEED to upgrade?

Well, the tingling sensation in my belly forces me to upgrade.

That said, I will definitely look into the 290 and 780. It's effing awfull to find good comparisons between cards, though. Not to mention manufacturers.

I prefer AMD, Which Is why i bought the R9 290X.

You can;t go wrong with either the 780/290/780Ti/290X. All great cards. I prefer the extra Vram and higher memory bus.

@ ShriekXL: There's a medication you can get these days for that kind of thing. ;)
You'll just have to check out the reviews of each particular card you have in mind: Toms (natch), Techpowerup, Guru3D, Harwarecanucks, Xbitlabs are good places to start.
Again, agree with Unknownofprob with the AMD cards, but Nvidia tend to run cooler and quieter with smaller heatsinks, have PhysX, Gsync and Shadowplay as nice little extras along with generally better AA options.
Are you from the UK, mate? If so here's a few useful places to go shopping: Dabs, Maplins, Aria, CCL, Overclockers, Novatech, Ebuyer, Scan, Pixmania and the ever popular Amazon.

I ACT british, but I am not actually a Brit. Yeah...

Anyway, thank you both for replying, I have a lot of information to process. Oh, the hassle of limited funds.

The GTX 780 is a great card... same as the R9 290. Get whichever one you prefer in my opinion.
