Hi. I had an old hitachi hard disk which had lots of data, which accidently fell down. Now it makes a ticking noise every second, and after 5-10 mins it stops. bow it is not detected by the computer. please help!! i used to connect the hard disk using a SATA to USB 3.0 converter wire. It had contained lots of important data. Help! :( :??:

"but the ticking noise stops after 5-7 mins!"

That's because the drive shuts off after so many minutes of trying to move the read/write head. It realises there's a mechanical problem so it just gives up, until next time you plug it in. Then it just goes through the same cycle again.

The ticking noise tells you it's a damaged drive, and it doesn't make any difference even when the ticking stops. Damaged means damaged, it's not going to fix itself.
It's not good news I'm afraid. The hard drive has failed and the ticking noise is the sound of the read/write heads which are trapped against the data platters (round magnetic disks). The read/write heads should never touch the platters but they are touching now, so both heads and platters are physically damaged.

This kind of damage cannot be fixed, and the only way to get data off it is to let a data recovery specialist do it, that costs a lot of money.

Putting important data on only one hard drive is asking for trouble. You should have backed it up to a second hard drive or to DVD-R media before you dropped it.

After the ticking noise stops, there is norml noise, i.e spinning noise!
