My dell has decided it's an aircraft ? Working fine .but the fan over the CPU runs at high speed nothing on the screen no clicks beeps just the fan . I'm told it could be the thermal paste has dried out and it's on over cool! And others say it's a motherboard fault? Anyone point me in the right direction?

Solution
if it isnt starting at all it wont be the thermal paste, have you tried resetting the bios. im not sure about your board but most have small pins on the mobo that you switch the mini circuit breaker around on. you'd have to look up your particular board but its helped me in the past.

how old is your desktop?? i had an old rig that did that, most likely thermal paste or just your cpu getting old. you can download the nvidia or radeon overclocking software that will tell you your temps and fan speed.

I can't do that just now , it just won't start up but it's good to have the info thanks . It's an oldish desktop Iv look into the motherboard and it seems to be a GX280 running 4gb Iv never changed it as it's been very good up until now giving me good service I think the thermal paste might be a good place to start
