I am going to by a motherboard but i realize its a pcie x16....in sli mode the slots will run at x8 on the two slots.....Would i notice any performance loss if i run two gtx 660s in sli on x8 slots rather than x16 slots..

There shouldn't be a difference; a 16X slot isn't fully saturated from a GTX 780, and that's double the bandwidth of a GTX 660, so an 8X slot should be fine for a GTX 660.

However, I see a lot of people on this forum asking for help with SLI and crossfire problems. Games stuttering, getting low fps, overheating, etc, from SLI or crossfire. I generally recommend just 1 video card.
