Hello all,

I am wondering if anyone has had any similar experience and may know whats causing this.

My wife received a prebuild HP http://http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4119566 as a gift, however when trying to change the graphics card from a geforce GT 520 to a geforce 320 I started having troubles. The orginal graphics card that came with the system was changed a while back before my wife got the computer.

When the graphics card has been swapped to the 320 the computer starts like normal and installs the new drivers. The first time I done this the pc booted fine and was running for a day with no issues and then it crashes while on desktop. After this when I install the card and the system restarts it gets to the windows logo each time and the pc hangs.

I have tried installing the older drivers to all the available ones on nvidia website and some that are archived on other websites but same issue happens

I have put the card into another pc and it runs just fine.

Can it be that HP restricts upgrades to their prebuild sytems (even though the orginal card was replaced) or a fault in the mobo?

Any help would be great,

thanks

I'm not aware that HP or any computer builder restricts the use of third-party expansion cards, after all, HP doesn't even make graphics cards so what would be the point?

Did you remove the old 520 drivers before removing the 520 card? The proper procedure is:

1) Uninstall existing graphics card drivers.
2) Shut down PC.
3) Swap graphics cards (caution with static)
4) Restart PC and Windows will use it's own generic, basic VGA driver which is low resolution.
5) Install supplied driver for the newly-installed card or download from card maker's website.
6) Restart Windows.

Yes i have done the above several times with uninstalling removing old gfx and installing new gfx with low res and installing new drivers. However when it reboots thats when it hangs on loading screen and i have tried alot of the different drivers. Then when I uninstall the old drivers and put the old card back in there is no more hangs. I've tried resetting bios aswell, only thing ive not tried is reinstalling windows but I want to avoid that right now. Currently the 320 is in another computer with no issues but I want to swap it with my wifes pc.
