Was about to pick up a Asus 280x but discovered that its plagued with artifacting problems.

My current setup is:
AMD FX-8320
Asus M5A97 R 2.0 MB
8Gbs of ram
600w PSU

Not looking to spend much more than $300 and don't really know what to go with / have any preferences as long as it runs well.

More about : gpu 300ish budget

I have it's cousin the Radeon 7950 (R9 280 "no X") and am curious what artifacting problems you speak of. All my games and applications run artifact free.

It's only the Asus 280x in particular that has artifacting problems according to reviews. Sorry, I should have clarified that.

I'm also a big Asus advocate, which is why im uncertain of what to go with now.

Usually the artifacting they speak of is from memory issues, perhaps my card has a better design or better cooling. The funny part is my memory is overclocked and so is the GPU.

This would be the best option then and the Gtx 770 is a bit better then the R9 280x anyway.
