So, I've had 2 MSI R9 290's in crossfire for a little while now. For a while, I was getting random BSOD's while browsing YouTube etc. This was getting to me since it would happen every 3 days or so.
I had recently upgraded my system, adding these 290's a couple of weeks later. Before that I had a 7950, which I didn't have this issue with.
The only thing I could think of, after getting the BSOD's, was hardware acceleration. I disable it in Firefox and behold, I rarely got BSOD's (although still got a couple).
The stop code is "0xa0000001 00000000`00000005"
It always seems to be caused by atikmdag.sys with verious addesses including: atikmdag.sys+28ece, atikmdag.sys+282ce, atikmdag.sys+277ce.
The minidump file sometimes also show random other drivers including: win32k.sys, ntoskrnl.exe, dxgmms1.sys (most common), Wdf01000.sys, iusb3xhc.sys.
I am using the latest AMD drivers (14.4 atm), but had the issue with previous drivers too.
System specs:
Intel i7-4770k, Gigabyte Z87X-D3H, 2 x MSI R9 290, Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB 1600MHz, Corsair RM1000, Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
As mentioned, I can turn hardware acceleration off to help the issue, but its not ideal.
Anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this?
