I was playing prototype 2 and there were lot of frame drops. So, I thought of reducing my resolution in desktop and the game worked very well wherever they had frame dropouts issue.

What's the reason for this?

My current PC Specs:

AMD FX 6300, R9 270X OC, M5A99FX Pro R2.0

Note: All of my pc games are in ultra settings with full resolution.

Update 1: If anyone of you have high end pc games with too much of frame dropouts, try this method and check if this works.

By full resolution do u mean 4k? I assume you mean 1080p and i would lower AA and few other settings if your GPU is having a hard time playing on ultra.

I forgot to mention something in here. My monitor has the maximum resolution of just 1366*768.
I had lot of fps dropout issues in most of the high end games.

I was really worried about this. Just few minutes ago, I just reduced the DESKTOP RESOLUTION to about 1280*800 and played the high end games like prototype 2, hitman absolution, etc with their resolutions kept to 1366*768.

The games worked like awesome. There were no lags in frames and it was constant all over.

So, is there any connection related between the desktop's and game's resolution?

Depends what driver you have with the R9 270 if you have the newest one 14.1 get rid of it... its shit, go back to 13.1/2, I had significant fps drop with the newer driver with every game... with that said the 270 can handle/run 1080p decently... METRO is really hard on it though....

I have r9 270 also, and latest drivers, but its not 14.1, its 14.4 i think. Anyway, i also have significant fps drops in BF3 MP, down to 30 fps on 1440x900, all high ( not even ultra), and it really pisses me off, it should work much better, also i have x4 750k cpu. Anyway, are you sure 13.1/2 would fix that?

I changed the desktop resolution and the games work like AWESOME. Try it out in your PC as well.

I would think that card would play anything at ultra with a decent frame rate at 768p.

After lowering the desktop resolution, the games with ultra settings (AA turned on, Vsync turned on) started playing very well than before. For example, in Hitman Absolution's 1st stage, I had Frames dropout when the player looks at a SUN or bunch of plants sprouted over the rocks. But after changing the desktop's resolution, the game worked so smooth like silk. So... how's this possible?

Okay, let me tell you something. I played prototype 2 with a trainer. When I use too much of the player's powers, the graphic details get higher and higher during the game-play and thus leading to frames dropout. At that time, I had native desktop resolution 1366*768 and the game's resolution follows the same too. But after I changed the desktop's resolution, leaving the game's one as 1366*768(same like before), the prototype 2 game worked very well...Now, this is making me to think that there must be a connection between the desktop's and game's resolution settings.

@MostWantedSoulRider Ok mate, ill try this tonight. My monitor is 1440x900, ill try to set it at 1366x768 or another acceptable. Hope this will help me, im sick of fps falling!

@Hardwarefreak88 Thank you too, ill try that also tonight. Which one to choose 13.1 or .2?

might be something wrong with that monitor? or something else... because at those lower resolution's the 270 shouldn't be struggling at all....

My whole PC setup is new. (about 1 month old). So, I don't think there is a problem with my monitor. But, I can say something that my monitor is pretty cheap one yet 768 pixels game-play is looking good for my eyes lol.

yes go back to the 13.1/2 drivers battlefield 3 and 4 love those drivers lol, had huge like 20fps drop and not as consistent going to the newer 14.4....

I was using the same driver version and still the same. But I see lot of changes in frames' consistency in high end pc games when the desktop resolution made to be bit low (not too much).

Yeah, change your desktop resolution and tell us how the game worked, in this same thread so that everyone can follow. You can keep your game's resolution at 1440*900 but not the desktop's.

I'm running 13.2 right now I think its doing the best so far.

I think AMD's upcoming drivers will possess more lag/bugs/snags rather than having countable number of benificial features lol.

Remember: Lower the desktop screen resolution and you can keep everything high as hell in game's video settings.

Tried both options, old drivers, and lowering resolution. Still the same, no performance increase :/

Maybe its the multiplayer thingy.

I've tested only the single player performance. Other than battlefield, try any single player game you have, in your pc.

Edit: Well, I didn't notice the significant change in my gaming rig too. So, I tested it with each desktop's resolution. I observed something that "More Wider the screen resolution = More Frames Dropouts in high end games set with high resolution".

So, find a desktop resolution that would make your screen a lot narrower, when playing games. I have tested each resolution point for one hour game-play. For Instance, my screen resolution is now set to 1280*720. I don't know if it can be the same thing in your monitor. Switch between each resolution in your monitor and see which one is making your desktop screen narrower. More narrower it gets, more performance is seen high end games in my PC.

You mean narrow by sides or from top/bottom?

A resolution of your monitor will make your screen go narrower by sides. Use it and try playing the game.

Mine: 1280x720
