Confirmation of motherboard-processor compatibility.

Hey everybody.

I've been searching around for a new CPU, since my current one is beginning to show its age. I'm on a bit of a budget, so I was looking at the AMD FX-6300 (This one).

My problem is, after a while searching, I'm not sure if it's compatible with my mainboard! I'm running with the MSI 870A-G46 (Here), which has an AM3 slot, while the FX-6300 up there has an AM3+ slot.

Anyway, my question is this: will that CPU work with my motherboard? I'd read something about a BIOS update being released, but I just managed to confuse myself. Any clarification would be amazing.

Thank you!

  1. I am pretty sure it won't be compatible. I could not find any bios updates stating that it would make am3+ cpu's compatible.

    Thanks for the answer.

The specific BIOS update I was talking about was mentioned here. If that's not the case, I guess I'll be updating my motherboard sooner rather than later. Any idea whether this is true?

I did not see that. That means it should be compatible but make sure to update your bios before installing the fx 6300 in your system. You will not need to upgrade your motherboard.
