How do i reformat my drive and fresh install windows 8.1?

So i need to reinstall windows on my machine (for reasons i dont want to explain), and delete everything off my SSD without touching my HDD. My question is simply how do i erase and reformat my SSD without touching the HDD?

Unplug the HDD
Install
During the install, blow away all partitions on the SSD
Done.

Any applications that live on the HDD will need to be reinstalled.
And of course any applications that lived on the SSD as well.
