lets say i wanted to start making gameplay videos or "lets plays" as most people call them. and i wanted to get something like a black magic card or along those lines. but lets say i had a gpu like the asus gtx 760 that HDCP in it. i heard you cant capture footage with hdcp, that's why there was the big kerfuffle about the ps3/ps4 update that lifted that. so if i was in this case and wanting to be able to capture footage but had a HDCP card like the asus gtx 760, would i not be able to? or is there a way to get past it thats still legal or would a person have to get a different card? if you'd have to get a different card with out the hdcp what would you recommend? (thats still a gtx 760)

It's not that I'm against them, it's simply that you have no reason to get one . I might have "barely" see some merit buying one if you would be AMD Graphics Card user, but since your are GTX user you basically have the properties of a Capture Card already inside your GPU using the ShadowPlay. It will record your gameplay at exactly same minimal performance hit and quality as any external capture card would.

So it's pretty much waste of money getting a Capture Card in your case. CCs are primarily for console users who don't have the ability to record with something like ShadowPlay or getting Processor based PC software like Dxtory.

You own a Desktop, not a Console... You are not a peasant *cough* I mean I see little reason for you to buy a Capture Card. You are GTX user meaning you can use GeForce ShadowPlay, a FREE built-in feature into your GTX card which will record your gameplay exactly same as any capture card would.

And if you want to get absolutely the best possible quality you can always purchase a software like Dxtory, Bandicam or Fraps which are used by most of professional Gaming YouTubers (better quality than ShadowPlay but puts significantly higher stress on your Processor and Hard Drive). I'd advice trying out ShadowPlay first since it's the most casual users friendly and free.

fair enough. so you are completely against getting an external capture device?

There is no reason why you would.
Think about it, export video to a device though GPU, device puts strain on computer to process it, you then have footage.
OR
System records footage.

You skip un needed stress, hardware, and money simply by using capture software.
