Ive been wireless for awhile and i convinced my mom to move the router and modem into my room, the problem is that when i plug the ethernet cable from my router to my computer nothing happens, my router is a netgear N 300 wireless router and my modem is an xfinity box from comcast. but no matter what i try i cant make my computer wired. Thanks in advance

Solution
Okay no your temps are fine, your not overheating (please see my instructions for including MSI Afterburner then when playing comparing to these idle temps). It may be a simple the Planetside needs to be reinstalled, as no other games are having this issue correct?

You can download Driver Fusion or 3DGuru's Driver Sweeper. Uninstall the Nvidia drivers through control panel, then run Driver Fusion / Sweeper to really clean out the Nvidia drivers. Reboot. You will be in VGA mode, go to Nvidia and download the latest drivers installing them now clean and retest Planetside. If your still having issues try reducing the graphics level your setting to (i.e. your on Ultra go down to High) and always turn off OverClocking if you have issues...

Awesome. Progress is progress. What motherboard do you have?

But try this first: You don't need any Installation CD or driver.
To setup your router plugin it and connect the network cable.

Now access your router by using your router IP 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1.
Router Id: admin
Password: password or 1234

If you are unable to access it then you need to reset it.
To reset just find a small hole behind your router. push the button inside the hole by the pin for 10-15 sec.
and follow the above steps.

I dont remember what motherboard i have, is there an easy way to find out? Also when i accessed my router, it brought me to the home page in the netgear genie and said the status is good, but how do i go to wired from wireless?

Again that will probably NOT happen. Just because your wireless does not make a game less stable nor slower or the reason for lag / FPS. Any number of other things can be in effect here, from simply your hardware is very old low end, to needing to setup QoS (Quality of Service) to give the games preference over Sister's watching Stupid Cat Videos or Mom watching Netflix, to honestly your system is hosed up with Malware (which your NIC suddenly not working indicated there is more a issue here then that).

First what exactly happens that is not stable?
Second what games are we talking this happens in, or is it in just one game?
When you try and play Single Player mode, do you see similiar issues at all?

Download and run SPECCY, copy and paste the first tab to show your computer and idle temps
Download and run MSI Afterburner, run some of the games that crash, what temps are you getting when underload?
Open Computer, Can Air dust out the bunnies and use paint brush on the vents, coolers, fans, etc.

Did you install all Windows Updates? Including options except BING? Check them and repeat till ALL are installed.
Download and run Slim Drivers, install all the latest updates but you don't need to reboot until you do the last update

Remove whatever AV your using and go to www.filehippo.com and download AVAST! or AVG and do a full system scan - this repeatedly has resolved alot of people issue relying on MS Essentials.
Download Malwarebytes do a full system scan (AV doesn't pick up alot of malware) - this resolved almost ALL other similiar posts to date as most had Malware the AV didn't pick up.
Repeat the AV/Malware scans till the system comes up clean.

Let us know the results of all these steps, 90% of the time just these steps along resolves ALL the issues.

you need to check to see if you have a network adaptor driver for the ethernet port, also check to see it is disabled.

to do this go to start menu, search for device manager and open the program. under network adapters, you should see one that says something like ethernet 10/100/1000 or similar to that wording. this means you do have an ethernet adapter for internet.
if not you might see "ethernet controller" under other devices with a yellow exclamation mark, this means it is there but the driver is not installed, and you could right click and choose update driver software, and choose from the internet *(might not work and you will have to download ethernet driver from your computers support site) either way this is 1st step.

2nd step is checking to see if the ethernet adapter is enabled for you to use.
Start menu, search for 'view network connections' and open the program with the same name, if you followed the above instructions you will see that you have an ethernet adapter and a wifi adapter. simply right click the ethernet adapter and enable if it is not.

As for this thread issue "It only happens in planetside 2, and when my family watches netflix or uses the other computers i seem to lag alot more" this is back to what I was saying, a wired connection WILL NOT HELP. Your issues is Quality of Service and your family's Internet package. As the Internet passes along all the data to your router to then pass to each machine asking for the data, it normally does it like a hose.. just spews it out without thought. If the router is set with QoS and all devices (iPhones, laptops, PS3s, etc.) have QoS enabled, then the router put those thing at the top of it's "list" as first priority to pass along, like Videos (Netflix), Video Chat, Telephone Service (VoIP), then the next ones would be say Web pages, then after that RSS feeds, and so on. So those at the top of 'the list' are first priority. As I said if you don't have it enabled to enhance your game play (If router sees games using Port 1234 then they get first priority) then you will continue to lag, wired or wirelessly. Further if you went with the 'cheap Internet package' then it isn't setup for Gaming AND Video at the same time, you would have to convince your mom to go to the next service package. For example if she is on the cheapo 5Mb Cable service, that is great for a couple of computers nothing else in the house and people can surf. If you want to Game while she watches Netflix without Netflix hiccuping / you not lagging, then you need at least the 15Mb Cable package. Normally because everyone's smart phones, iPads, Xbox's etc are ALL wanting to be online, most people are starting at the 30Mb package and going up to the 50-100Mb (depends on your area) service package.

As Tom said, Wired won't increase your download speed, unless your Wi FI has a bad reach. Do a speedtest and link us to the results. The only benefit of going from a good wireless connection to wired would be port issues playing up on a crap router. Also for future reference look into 'Powerline Adapters'; a lot less hassle than moving around your router/cabling.

As for your crashing issue, i believe a driver update brought the issues, see here for a possible fix: https://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/index.php?threads/display-drivers-stopped-working-gtx-760.174751/

i think one thing you guys are forgetting, WIFI can only go so fast and sometimes a wired ethernet can push data through much faster.

wifi comes in different speeds according to the router and adapter. some speeds for wifi are really low (150mb,300mb with no dual band) and up to 450mb in newer dual band adapters and routers.

one thing to keep in mind when expecting an increase in speed with wired vs wifi.
