Hey all! I had requested this a few months ago but I had to postpone the upgrade due to budget constraints. This time for sure, I am looking for a decent upgrade that can last me a good while.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Next month

USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming and photo editing. Games such as Watch Dogs, AC4, Skyrim with mods, Shadow of Mordor, Witcher 3, etc.

CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY: Zotac Geforce GTX 570 Amp edition, 800 Watt PSU

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS: Intel Core i5-3550, P8 Z77 M-Pro mobo, 8 GB Corsair Vengeance ram

PARTS PREFERENCES: any

OVERCLOCKING: No

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: No

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1920x1080

BUDGET : About $550 at most, would prefer lower than $500.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:

- I need something that can last me at least a year or two on ultra at 1080p
- I dont play FPS on PC so please don't keep Crysis or Metro in mind.
- Need silent and great cooling (MSI or Sapphire perhaps?)

Thanks in advance!

I'd get this and watercool it later

Thanks for the quick response! Newegg does not ship to India, where I live. Apologies, should have mentioned that. I prefer air cooling since I am not that good with cooling and overclocking

Yup, I was hoping to wrap up under 30k Rupees. Love the cooling on Sapphire cards. Will 280X perform well on 1080p on ultra for a year or so? I might switch to 1440p perhaps next year. Will it hold up on max/high or do I need to look at an R9 290 ?

Sweet! Thanks for the reply guys. I'll go for the 280X for now and perhaps if I need some more meat in the future, I can add another 280X.....might get cheap by then. What say?

I'd say it's all good , that gpu is decent and will definetly play your games maxed out , maybe that it'll struggle a bit on ac4 but otherwise you're good
By " struggle " i mean that you won't get constant 60+ fps

The VAPOR-X is overclocked , has a different cooler ( which should be better than dual-x's as it's factory overclocked ) , and it's blue lol
That's all I can tell , maybe unknownofprob can give you more information .

Dual-X;

No vapour Chamber, relies on just heatpipes and fans
Smaller Size PCB

Vapor-X

better cooling fan system (fans little larger with higher RPM, with larger heatpipes running the longer lengths.)
Vapor chamber to cool GPU even better, though not a huge difference.
Better heat dissipation.

I did a bit of research and looked at a lot of review, etc. on Tomshardware as well as other sites and it seems Asus DCU3 is overall a better idea, with better load temps and lower noise levels. I did find out a good deal in my country for the same : lLink

Its actually cheaper than the VaporX and a little bit expensive than the Dual-X. I think I might get this one instead.

marcello727 : obviously , nvidia payed ubisoft to make the game NON optimized for amd , but when patches will come out amd users will have a smooth experience , and the drivers for amd are far better than you think ...

AMD was outplayed by Nvidia when it comes to Watch Dogs, with all the GameWorks b.s.

Its all over, no matter what card you have, you wont be able to get awesome frames right now. We can wait for the patches and hope for the best. I'm sure the red team is working on optimizing the game as we speak.

The R9 280x is the optimum choice. But try to go with ASUS to avoid conflicts in warranty.
I India you wont be able to get any warranty or RMA options for Sapphire/Powrcolor/HIS/XFX, even if the retailer/online store promises you.
Your best bet would be to go with the Asus R9 280X, or in the most extreme case get a Gigabyte Card.
