When I boot up my computer which is running on a MSI Z87-GD65 motherboard, it keeps getting hung up during the post process. The motherboard reads Post 1: B and Post 2: 6. It never makes it to the MSI boot menu. This is the first rig I've built and I'm not really sure where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Solution
EUREKA! So after spending some time on the phone with MSI, I was able to solve the problem. I had to recent the CMOS which was an easy enough process. I simply had to unplug everything from my motherboard except 1 stick of RAM, my video card, and my processor. Then, I found the nickel sized silver battery on the motherboard and unplugged that for about 1 min and plugged the sucker back in. Computer booted right up afterwards and after several days of extensive use I have had no other issues. Thank you all for your help!

What do you mean by "The motherboard reads Post 1: B and Post 2: 6."?

Look in the bottom right corner of your screen during the boot process and you will see the "BIOS Boot Codes" flash as your BIOS goes through the boot process. You should see letter and number combos like "A2" and "B99". Tell us what code is displayed when it hangs.

Also please list the rest of your system's components, OS version info, e.g. Win 7 64 Pro.

Sorry about that, like I said I'm new to the whole process so my terms and information may be a bit lacking. Here is my full build.

It does not display a code when it gets hung up. Several codes do flash in the bottom right corner but it cycles through those without a problem. What I meant when i said "the motherboard reads..." is that my motherboard has an LED display that also shows the boot codes directly on the motherboard and while no codes get hung up on the screen, the motherboard reads that it is stalling on code B6. I've checked my motherboard owner's manual and found the key for the boot codes but it doesn't explain what B6 relates to. Hope this explains the issue a little better.

Interesting. This is the second issue I've heard of with these codes on this mobo. I'm looking to get the same mobo, or a Gigabyte -UD4H. Any insight as to what the codes mean so I can note it and use it in the event this happens.

I'm not finding much on a B6 POST code.

I don't see a keyboard in your list. Do you have a USB KB? If so, where is it plugged in? plugged into USB 3.0 or 2.0?

If you have a USB KB, try unplugging it when you get the B6 code, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in.

You may need a BIOS update. What is your BIOS version?
