Argh, Okay. I think the problem is that the power button is not correctly plugged into the mobo. I have it all together and pressed the powerbutton to find nothing. I do see the ethernet light is on so I see there is power.
The pins for the case were a PAIN to figure where to go. It is a Fractaral Designs R4 Blackout. I found two case fan plugs which I plugged both into the mobo (that correct)? I also found an LED+ and LED -. I plugged those into the ASRock Z97 Extreme4 in the right spot.
Now the one labeled PWRSWTCH, this was a two-pin plug which I am guessing corresponds with Power Switch plug that ASRock has labeled, but Asrock says it should be a 1 pin.. I went ahead and plugged it in there (should the letters on pin be facing upwards?). The pin that appears to be grounding on the case is another 2 pin plug, but ASRock says it should be 1 pin. I plugged into the bottom where it says groudn should go and took up space next to it.
The final problem plus is the HDAudio. It comes from the front of the case on a shorter line, but the HDAudio on the ASRock is on the BACK of teh board and the cord does not reach that far. Any suggestions? What about the extra cords I found on the case, a molex and some 3 pin. I am guessing those are to plug the fans in for direct control through case?
Could I have shorted out my board? It is a full painted chassis, I had a wrist strap I connected to an unpainted standoff, but the psu was not plugged in, and part of time of course no psu. The room I work in has NO carpet.
For further step by step on what I did to help me read the following
1. Took mobo on the box and lifting the arm placed the i5 4670K processor into the spot dropping it in and lowering arm.
2. Took the Hyper 212 EVO cooler and placed a bit of Arctic Silver 5 onto the cpu then placed the cooler on. I realized I did it incorrectly by not putting the upper bracket through so I had to use Arctic Solutions Cleaner to clean heatsink and CPU. I did it again, but got paranoid and lifted to see if I used pea method correctly. I did so I cleaned it off again, and did it a 3rd time lol. Tightened on the cooler in the opposite side manner with fingers then tighted til slight resistance with screw driver
3. Placed the Ripjaws X RAM into slots 2 and 3 which ASRock said were the Priority 1 to be Populated.
4. Placed Optical Drive in case along with the PSU and SSD into trays.
5. Put in stand offs then inserted the mobo
6. routed wires through the back of mobo as best I could do and plugged in the CPU fan into CPU fan slot one. The Case fans into Case fans 1 and 2 on mobo. Plugged a SATA 3 from SSD to the mobo, Plugged a SATA 3 from ODD to the mobo. Plugged in the LED+ and LED- into what I think were the right spots. Plugged teh USB 3.0 into the USB 3.0 mobo slot. Plugged teh USB 2.0 into the USB 2.0 slots. Stared at the HDAudio plug with no clue how to route it and just leaving it. Then plugged the 2 pin PWRSWtich and the 2 pin ground below it.
7. ran power SATA cables to the ODD and harddrive, ran a power cable to the mobo then the way the psu worked you plugged 2/3 of the same size power cable into the bottom, and 1/3 into the top of the psu. Put the GTX 780i intot he case. It is massive so could not run the wires behidn teh board it was just closer to just go straight to the psu.
Took the case, and plugged it in. Pressed power.. NOTHING. Checked the psu outside and inside and both said powered. pressed power button on board nothing. No fan movements, no nothing.
