radeon hd7950 no hdmi signal

I have this gigabyte hd 7950 radeon graphic card I can use the dvi output with a hdmi adapterto dvi port and it works but when I connect the hdmi cable I get no signal I have a msi z68ma-g45 (b3) motherboard , 8 gigs ram , icore 3 cpu , 750 watt psu
any ideas on the promlem iam having

The same HDMI cable works but only with the DVI adapter? Or are they two different cables?
