Hello! This is my first attempt at a build and I'd like some feedback, please. Interested in a budget gaming PC for my son (and me!). We'd like to play minecraft together and with friends on multiplayer servers. I also play a lot of War Thunder and am hoping for a PC that will let me play at high or even max settings (I'm at medium to low for my laptop). So, we're hoping for a midrange setup optimized for graphics. I was shooting for a $750 - $800 (w/out OS or monitor) and here's what I've got so far (largely based on available rebates and sales):

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core
CPU: Cooler Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus 76.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P ATX AM3+
Memory: Kingston Fury Black Series 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1333
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 760 2GB DirectCU II
Case: Thermaltake Overseer RX-I ATX Full Tower
Power Supply: EVGA 500W ATX12V / EPS12V
Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer
Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WN881ND 802.11b/g/n PCI-Express x1
Case Fan: Thermaltake CL-F015-PL20BL-A 129.6 CFM 200mm

$843.28 (747.49 after rebates and discounts)

I was hoping to have room for future upgrades. Also, if the graphics card (or any other component) is overkill for my needs, please let me know as I still have to pick up an OS and monitor.

Thanks for your replies!

Thats a fine build. That motherboard is also great for Overclocking, should you feel the need in the future. Maybe go for a 2 x 4 RAM setup but the performance increase has never really been noticed. I'd also suggest an AMD card for a little bit of future tech but i'm just a fan boy. The Nvidia card is good. I would suggest to get an SSD to run your OS and favourite games on though, the speed difference will be incredible.

Thanks! I'm definitely thinking about the SSD given the big discounts/rebates. Had left it out given the need for the monitor and OS but very tempted now.

THe MSI Radeon R9 270X 4GB card is nearly the same price. Is that one I should consider?

I'd highly recommend the Samsung Evo 120gb. It's very cheap now and the Samsung Magician software really does speed your pc up by quite a lot.

Actually, I meant the MSI Radeon R9 280X 3GB card. It's significantly discounted (today only) and would help me to justify adding the SSD. Would I sacrifice much performance switching to that card?

Quite the opposite, you will see a excellent performance increase with that card, its better than the 760.

I'm not really sure how those sites work but See if you can find a slightly cheaper case to allow the price of an SSD, Zalman Z11 Plus for example. It's one of those things where once you have an SSD you'll never want to go back, but at the end of the day it won't increase your FPS and if your primary need is gaming it shouldn't matter too much.
