Hello, I have a Inspiron 570 with windows 7 and when I power it on to start it up it says:

Windows Error Recover
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

If window files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, Startup Repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted during startup, choose Start Windows Normally.

Then it gives me the option to start it normally or launch the startup repair. When I launch it normally it brings me back to the same place and when I launch the startup repair it brings me to the normal background and lets me see my mouse and move my mouse around but I can't see profiles or anything else.

When I ran diagnostics I got this error:
Hard Drive - DST Short Test
Test Results: Fail

Is there any way I can fix this without losing all my files?

Hello my name is TheProMaster

Usually when getting that error you get two options :

    1. Start Normally

    2. Run Startup Repair

Start Normally

This option is usually for cases in which the power was interrupted during startup , or a slight hiccup in your hardware/BIOS, If it was one of those then windows will start as normal , but if it either crashed/problem persists , then choose option number 2.

Startup Repair

This option is for viruses/software and could be simply fixed by running system restore or going into the BIOS itself. It will take a while for startup repair to turn on depending on your system specs.

Alright , if both options do not work , I would suggest opening up your computer and trying to figure out which hardware is causing that error , Try opening everything but keep key components like monitor , cpu , memory , mouse etc , and turn on and off your pc everytime putting a component into your pc , for example you have taken every non key component out of your computer , no if you have more than 1 stick of ram installed , then leave one and replace them while doing it. Okay now you have only key components on your computer , try turning on your computer , if the problem persists try taking a key component out , but if everything works fine , turn off your computer and insert a random non key component into your computer. Keep doing this until the error happens again , check to see if the last non key component you inserted has a problem and replace that non key component with a different one or have it fixed.

If you have no idea what I just said , then I recommend throwing money at it , send it to a store and have it fixed there.
