Hey guys,

I recently bought a Samsung 840 EVO 250gb SSD from Amazon.co.uk. Got it all physically installed into my PC box earlier, booted up my machine and then the issues began.

First thing I saw was a pop-up saying that the Drivers for the new SSD had been installed and I thought "great." Open up My Computer and the SSD isn't showing up alongside my C drive, my D recovery drive, or my ext. hdd which was plugged in for backing up.

I then proceed to try and clone my HDD onto my SSD. Now I had over 900gb of stuff on my HDD, deleted a lot of it, told Samsung Data Migration software to ignore all of my films, tv, and music which were already backed up, and to get on with the cloning.

It goes through the first few stages, and then I get an error which is quoted below:

"Error: Failed to retrieve Target disk information 205410[032262]"

I've tried restarting my PC and that's not worked. Unfortunately Samsung Support close at 6pm so I can't phone them for help until tomorrow so I've resorted to the ever-intelligent internet.

Please help ^^.

Andy.

I've called them and frankly they weren't much use. I'm waiting to be emailed a form from Samsung regarding my computer specs.

Bit of an update; whenever I attempt to run the cloning software my new SSD disappears from My Computer and 'un-partitions' itself in the Disk Management. I have to re-partition it every time the clone fails to get it to reappear in My Computer.

Just run through the guide on partitioning and formatting the drive; the SSD now shows up in My Computer, unfortunately I'm still getting the error outlined above when attempting to clone from my HDD to the SSD
