Hi all,

I have been looking at what I find to be some very weird temperatures.
Now.. I have no experience with voltage or overclocking but I wanted to take a look at what the options are since I ordered a new cooler for my CPU.
System Specs :
Asrock Fatal1ty H87 Performance
I5 4670K @stock
Windforce 7950 3gb

Now.. Everything is stock and apart from building it into my new case (HAF Stacker) nothing happened. I am playing far cry 3 on ultra and downloading torrents at the same time. No stutters, never went dead on me.

When I looked at the Asrock A-tuning module it showed me some very weird readings in my opinion. after looking on the net I saw a lot of people with stock coolers that never go anywere near the temps that I get here.

Could anyone tell we whether I am crazy or if this is indeed somethign to look into?

Thanks in advance to all :)

well finally I can answer... It took quite a while because after the upgrade to the CPU cooler my mobo went dark...
After a lot of looking and searching I decided to invest... Went for a sabertooth mobo and wel... I couldnt let a combo like that play around with my 9750 so I went to a ROG platinum 280X.

Back to the temps... I think it was the mobo.. Idle temps are around 42* and load no higher than 60* (no OC)

So.. thanks for the advice and help guys. I will be using the forum more and will try to contribute as much as my knowledge will allow for :)

Most motherboard shut PCs down at 100 celsius because it's getting dangerous. you'll fry transistor and shit at that temp. My guess is the stock (I have a stuck i7 fan and its 40 celsius while gaming) fan isn't fix like it should.

I would investigate the cooler mtg. Check to see if the black push-pins properly popped open the white fingers on the backside of the MB. Many times overtemp is caused by the stock cooler having one or more posts loose. That would result in poor contact between heat sync and CPU.

Thanks so far for the answers.

I have to say that Although I have no real experience overclocking, I have plenty of experience with casebuilding. first thing I did was check the cooler but it is perfectly stuck. the Push-Pins are all the way through and there is near zero dust build up. I checked my airflow to see if it might pull hot air from somewhere but that is not the case either.

Its weird. the temps now are in the high 50's. It's shooting all over the place with less that 25% load.

I am going to take a test and do a short 15min session on BF4 on Ultra and will be back in 20 to let you all know what happens.
Personally I am thinking it might be an error in the readings but I have no idea where or how to find it, let alone correct it.

Be back in a few!

Check your CPU's core temps using Core Temp*. That has never failed me for reading Intel processor temps yet.

*(be sure to click on 'more downloads...' to get the stand-alone version. The main download will install bloatware)

I went and download it. Se attached scrn shot for results. I have taken the CPU voltage in Atuning down to 1.41 and it shows 60C in both programs now.

I just played som BF4 and appearantly the sweet mouse bug "let's aim the gun to the ceiling" is something i need to fix one of these days. After going to Far Cry 3 on Ultra and setting fire to the suroundings, blowing the shit out of some natives and running a rampage nothing changed in the heat that came off the cpu. also there were no changes in the fan noise (I've heard it being a lot louder sometimes when it was actually on a big load).

Now.. under the load shown this still seems like a high temp when I look at some of the topics on here.

If those max temps in the 70Cs are during load as you describe it, it is not surprising with a stock cooler. The max temp for the i5-4670K is almost 73C. Peaking there and slightly above isn't surprising. Not unsafe, not bad considering.

Thats good to know. It is weird though. I was just watching Netflix and it spiked to around 80c shown. 2 minutes later with no changes (not even touching the mouse) it is back to mid 50's.

After I closed the game it went from high 80c shown to 55c in a matter of 2-3 seconds.

I think it might be best to wait till my new stuff is in. I just ordered new coolers and such to upgrade.
Gelid Extreme
Be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 cooler
2x 120mm Corsair Air Series AF120 and 1x 140mm AF140

Hope this might change the temps.

Even though it is extreme I can't shake the feeling that it is a wrong reading. If the max temp should be in the mid 70's than it should not be that 20% load temps should be in the 60's already. let alone not going in overdrive during a full day BF4 session, streaming to my TV and downstairs with bluray movies.

I will let the topic open for now since I would like to let you all know how things go when my new coolers are installed. Core temp is now showing 42-46c under the same load it was showing low70's not an hour ago.

Thanks for the feedback guys and I will keep you posted on the new coolers!
