You need a minimum of 550 watts and 30 Amps on the 12 V rail as your system PSU. Pick whatever is available over 550watts.

550 watts minimum system power is what is needed to run that graphics card. It will work with a 550 watts PSU. This is the minimum requirement.

R9 280x requires a 600W psu with 1x6pin and 1x8pin pcie power connector.
leave some headroom means you should buy a 650W branded PSU.

I would keep that proc for now if I were you. Wait to see how well your system works and change after broadwell has arrived. That processor is maybe not very new, it still is capable enough to play modern games. It is said to overclock decently as well (you tried?).

smart! I would be you, I would take at least a 550W psu even if that cx500 offers oustanding price/performance ratio, because
-you do not know now what you will want to buy next year as a replacement for your processor.
-the OC on your AMD does require some power
