Hello everyone, I recently built a new computer. I have been using a macbook for the past 3 years, and I built a pc. I have an Intel i5 4670k, 8 gbs ddr3 1600 mhz, 750w corsair psu, cooler master seidon 120v liquid cooler, msi z87-g55. I am currently running the graphics off of the intel integrated hd graphics 4600, until i save up enough money to buy a msi gtx 770. When I run certain tasks, like playing a game and recording at the same time, coretemp says I go up to temps of 100 degrees Celsius, which I know can damage my CPU. However even when I am rendering a video out of Camtasia, I still get up to 100 degrees C. Is core temp inaccurate? Did I install my cooler wrong? Or is it just because my processor is handling the processing and the graphics that it is getting so hot? Is there anyway I can prevent these high temperatures?

Your CPU should not be getting that hot!! not even near that. I would suggest you check out your cooler and see if it's operating properly, how well is your air flow, make sure it's adequate enough to sustain the cooler. Did the cooler come pre-applied with TP? if not I would suggest buying some, AS5 is my recommendation.

I am using rosewill thermal paste, and maybe I should buy better thermal paste. I have two fans at the front of my case that are intake, and two at the top that are outtake. I have installed the cooler exactly how it was supposed to be, is there any way I can check to see if it is operating properly?

wait.. do you have any fans on the radiator itself? the kit did come with a fan. What configuration is it in?(Push- Pushing air into the raditor, Pull- Pull air into the raditor)
Here are pictures to clarify. The Black square repsents the fans, the grey represents radiator and of course represents the flow of air and the arrow of course represents the general direction of the flow of air.

Pull config

push config

Also where in your case did you place the radiator?

I have a fan mounted to the radiator pulling air into the radiator itself, I only have a 128 mm radiator, and it's mounted on the side of the case next to the motherboard IO. Should I have it mounted on top maybe?

Not sure it matters so long as it's pulling in air from the outside into the case, put your hand near the radiator from the inside the case and make sure you feel air coming through, how did you apply the TP? a dot in the middle? circle? put a dot then spread it evenly?

I don't have air from the outside, that may be my problem. The air is being pulled from the inside of the case which is obviously not doing the radiator any good. But should I have my fan pulling air from the outside into the radiator or should i have the fan pulling heat from the radiator and pushing it out? Thanks for your help by the way.

Nope you want your fan pulling in air from the outside through the radiator. So that is your problem you shouldn't be pulling hot air from the case because then your CPU temps are gonna suffer so go ahead and switch the direction of the fan and tell me if that solves your problem

I will do that tomorrow and I will let you know. Again thank you for your interest.

Your welcome, also I'm going to unselect that 'solved' answer because we won't know for sure if that'll fix your problem, this is so I as-well as other people can still help you if the answer I gave you doesn't solve the issue

It was actually not anything that I was doing wrong at all. It was my cooler. I have the cooler master seidon 120v. I paid $55, thinking it would be a good liquid cooler to keep my processor under 70 degrees under load. I tried what you told me to do, and I even tried 2 other configurations of the fan and radiator. But when I would do my benchmarking (aka minecraft everything turned up) it would go up to 90 c, probably 100 if i had let it run. So, I took out the cooler, and I put in the stock fan that comes with the intel processors. Doesn't run over 64 c, while running everything on high, and even while recording. I hope I can get my money back.

Yep faulty pump on the cooler then propbably, I'd suggest you call in an RMA to get a replaced one or if you haven't exceeded the refund 30 day thingy then you can try that too
