I picked out a new graphics card for my friend who also wants me to install it. But before he buys it, I need to make sure that everything will be compatible. I picked out the GTX 760 with 2GB DDR5, so what do I need to check to make sure everything will work fine after I install it?

Thanks,

Mark

lok at the brand and wattage of his power supply. make sure is a name brand unit and has the min wattage that nvidia posts on there web page for the 760 cards. look at the mb info online. if it a newer amd or intel mb the card should be plug and play. on some of the older intel and nvidia chipset mb the chipset or bios may be too old to post a newer gpu.
also look onkine to see how many video power plugs his power supply has. if it a low wattage one he may only have one 6 pin cable and not two that needed.

The Only thing that gpu need to work is 1 PCIe slot on motherboard and a 6pin or 8pin or both pins pcie connectors form power supply
and enough psu also.
and another thing is to confirm whether your new gpu will bottleneck your cpu or not.
