Hello,

My sister had just given me her computer as it has multiple issues with it. The computer is a Packard Bell/Acer Aspire M1930

Firstly, the sound keeps disappearing, it worked and now it has stopped working. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers but they can't seem to install again. It just says "Unsuccessful". The troubleshooter can't diagnose the problem. I have tried reinstalling the graphics card drivers which does not seem to fix it either. What could the issue be?

Secondly, the PS/2 slots have stopped working within Windows GUI, it works in the BIOS. What could the issue be?

Thirdly, Windows updates will not update, it constantly says restart the computer to resume updates. This is a constant sequence. what could the issue be?

Lastly, I cannot restore the computer as it says "hard drive configuration not set to factory default".

My final option would be to format the hard drive and reinstall Windows 7? Can I re-enter the code the computer came with?

Please help - I will REALLY appreciate it. It's got me thinking and thinking...

Thanks for the replies, appreciate it.

I managed to fix it. All of the issues were driver related but they would not reinstall successfully. After some extensive research, I found Microsoft FIXIT which troubleshoots any problems with the hardware. For some reason, this managed to successfully uninstall and reinstall the drivers.

Well is sounds like someone messed with the default configuration so you will definitely need a disc with a new key code. If you use the old key code that's on the machine you're going to get the same message because that the code that is assigned to the settings on that software. Have you tried any other options in the recovery? It seems to me there is one that will wipe everything and start over.

Or maybe you could go the hard drive manufacturer site and find out what the default setting is before you attempt anything else. I'm sure if you ask them for help they will.
