ASUS Mobo Overclocking - Motherboard Freq and System Freq different

Hi,

First of all. My CPU is the FX-8320, and my motherboard is the Asus M5A97 R2.0 EVO.

I recently upgraded from a gigabyte motherboard to and Asus motherboard. On the gigabyte motherboard, when I manually tweaked the frequency using the multiplier, my CPU Frequency in the System/dxDiag page changed also(from the stock 3.5 to 4.4GHz)

When I perform auto-tune on Asus' motherboard, it says it has set my CPU speed to 4.2GHz, but it doesn't change in the System/dxDiag page, and it remains at 3.5GHz, and does not change to 4.2GHz.

My question is, is it actually changing, or is it remaining the same?

Thank's in advance!

  1. Think DX is looking at the CPU spec or default - take a look with CPU-Z (free app) on the CPU tab, down in the multiplier pane

My Multiplier is 17, and my core is marking around 4200MHz. Check out the image below:

Is this right? I tought the multiplier should be greater than 17?

Here is a picture of the System page.

    Thanks!

When you ran that the multiplier was at 17.5, see where CPU-Z shows 7-20, that indicates it will go to 20 when needed, if not needed it idles back down
