Dear, Tom's Hardware community, if anyone could please help me out with a few questions I would much appreciate it and my happiness would go out to you.

This being my first post on here im a bit nervous, but I feel like this is the perfect community.

I have started my first pc build, I found that it would be very interesting and a great learning experience but I quickly got frustrated with my first build. After messing up several times I had finally got my computer together. The fresh sound of the fans running, and the motherboard lighting up was one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen after a long day's confusion and frustration. I plug it up to the monitor and there was no bios, no beeping, nothing...

Frustrated me and a few fellow computer techs at my work, worked on my computer doing everything from removing ram to removing each individual component and unplugging different PSU ports.. still nothing. We tried 3 different monitors, and different inputs... nothing. Even trying a new video card.. nothing.

I called Amazon, who happily replaced the motherboard and after a week and a half of waiting my new motherboard (same everything, same model) is going to get here. I am trying to convince myself it was a faulty motherboard but Im worried it was a static problem so I am very worried about my processor. I wore an antistatic wristband but I misunderstood the concept of grounding and hooked it just to the case, which was not hooked up to a wall. My first question is, does static still discharge without the case being connected to the power outlet (and yes I hooked it to a metal piece of the case, dressed very appropriately for the situation, and was on a hardwood floor. Is there any other way of good static discharge? I also dont understand installing the Hyper EVO 212 safely. Heres a short questions list! To make this short and simple

1. How do I hold the motherboard to install the backplate for the Hyper EVO 212 correctly? I dont want to bend anything on the motherboard or hurt anything trying to hold it to place the screws and nuts in on both sides of the device. I want to know a safe way of working on the motherboard on both sides basically.. Any ideas? no guides tell how to hold the motherboard! :(

2. Best way to discharge static if there is no way of plugging in the case to the power outlet (my actual computer is going to be in a different house once I get it built.. but Im not allowed to build it at my house and its all carpet. There is the issue of no where to plug up the device where im actually building it. (I took it to work to hook it to monitors). WHERE DO I HOOK MY WRISTBAND??!

3. Is there anything that sounds odd about this parts list.. is everything okay? I know im almost short on power supply but I should be just good barely with no expansions of course.. right?

Thanks everyone, and im very sorry for all the writing.
