Asus Maximums VII Ranger or Msi z97 gaming 5?

Those are my 2 options for sub £120 boards. I'll be mainly gaming and will very likely do some overclocks. Going for a black/red theme.

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/ftahir192/saved/ <- that's my full build (uncertainty of motherboard and case however - I want a mid tower case that has a window and support for a quite a few fans - open to suggestions for that too).

Thanks!

I'd go the Asus also, I have the VI Hero and just got the Z97 Vii Hero, and it has improved quite a bit, so have no doubt the other Asus mobos in Z97 will also be much better, they had the best Z87 mobos and seem to be continuing the trend. Splitters are fine for fans, and can't offer anything on the Front Base, sounds interesting but haven't tried it

Does this board in question have more features than the MSI?

Yes.Killer Ethernet from MSI won't help you that much.Asus has better overclocking capability bundled with killer SupremeFX discrete audio and more features.Check it out at the Asus website :) I have a Max VI Hero myself.

Yeah I looked up a review and this board looks vastly better. Thanks man. How do I go about setting up fans if I have more than 3 (as this mobo only has 3 fan sockets). Is using a splitter still safe/viable?

It's still safe today. Many dudes from other forums are still using it :)
Sorry I'am a noob at cables so I think you should consult an expert :D
As said from other forums, other fans might not be controlled by the splitter or if you're lucky enough, you can monitor all.

I'm thinking of purchasing the Asus FrontBase cause it also has a fan controller. Not sure if it's more of a gimmick though. New product.

Ok but look up reviews first to ensure it is safe :)

Thanks for that. Would you be able to recommend any "aesthetically pleasing" cpu coolers that could match a color scheme similar to the colors of the mobo? I'm really ocd about looks and I can't find a good looking cpu cooler - I wanted a hyper 212 evo but think it will look out of place..

Actually the EVO works well with the Haswells up to about a 4.4 OC and should be bettter with the refresh CPUs and their new TIM...Z97s run cooler, and a nice option on the EVO and ROG mobos is to change the fan to one w/ a red LED...........another nice option, though costlier, but to be expected an even better cooler is the CM GTS V8, I have it on my Z97 Hero, it's a beast but looks fantastic and is a great cooler (currently have a 4770K at 4.7 on the Z97 Hero)
