Would i be better off buying Two of the -ASUS R9 270x- for crossfire ~ or One of the Radeon R9 290?

I've used both the 780 and 290, and overall the 780(s) are the better cards performance wise, OC ability and run much cooler

I don't think their premium price tag justifies their performance, though. I think it performs at something like 5% better on average, at times.
Of course, we have our own opinions, but I'd suggest an R9 290.

Not to mention that it has 4GB VRAM as opposed to 3GB. Some games are pushing 2GB VRAM at the moment, so in the future, 3GB could become a limitation on the 780 and it also helps on higher resolution.

I'd also like to point out about Mantle and how it is being integrated more into companies' game engines (recently Crytek) so it could give an increasing advantage to the AMD cards in the future.

If you're factoring in the afermarket coolers, then the R9 290s don't run so hot so there's not much of a comparison.
