Hello
I would like to ask if someone can help me choose memory for Asus Z97 Sabertooth Mark1 and future i7-4790k (can assume it will be +- like 4770k with memory). Purpose of build is all around usage, some games, some encoding of videos +- everything.
So official support of motherboard in specification is up to 1866 so I had some 1866 picked, BUT in QVL list they list also 1866MHz+ for example 2400 MHz rams from kinston and corsair which ofc open new paths as with QVL those rams are officially supported and using them at given speeds won't technically void warranty. I know that QVL lists are mostly for show, but if is ram listed and it's above spec is nice to have official support for it from motherboard manufacturer.
I want to use 16gb (2x8 gb rams), rams I picked are all on QVL list for motherboard and also in my local store. If you want you can suggest other ram and I may try too look for it.
All prices are in euro, included codes for model of ram for easier search.
candidates 1866MHz (all 1.5V):
Crucial Ballistix Elite 9-9-9-27 price 145,82 (BLE2CP8G3D1869DE1TX0CEU)
Corsair Dominator Platinum 9-9-9-24 price 202,3 (CMD16GX3M2A1866C9)
Corsair Vengeance Pro 9-10-9-27 price 147,28 (CMY16GX3M2A1866C9)
Corsair Black Vengeance 9-10-9-27 price 144,38 (CMZ16GX3M2A1866C9)
candidates for 2400MHz (all 1.65V)
Corsair Dominator Platinum 10-12-12-31 price 259,12 (CMD16GX3M2A2400C10)
Kingston Hyper-X Beast 11-13-13-31 price 144,74 (KHX24C11T3K2/16X)
Now from 1866 I was thinking about Crucial one as it got low timings and good price. Dominator got better timings but not sure if it's worth 50 extra euro, other 2 corsair got just slightly worse timings and +- same price so it's really hard to choose.
With 2400 MHz there is nice price for Hyper-X beast but isn't it too low for 2400MHz, are those rams good? In some customer review I saw that they could not often reach 2400MHz.
Dominator Platinum I guess is best but is it worth almost 260 euro, almost double the price of Kingston?
Also is it worth to go with 2400 MHz over 1866MHz?
Thank you all for any advice you can give me.
