Watch Dogs optimization

For me it's all about the minimum frame rate which are more important than anything else (and apparently TechSpot doesn't give a hoot about those >.>). This typically isn't much of a problem with Intel CPUs, but with AMD CPUs like mine (FX-6300) even if the averages are in the 70+ fps range, it's only because it infrequently goes anywhere from 70 - 90 fps and then out of nowhere will drop anywhere from 30 - 45 fps because some LOD calculations destroy it. This happens to me all the time with Skyrim, Borderlands 2, Crysis 1, and pretty much any other expansive, large world game, so I'm just waiting to see it do the same with Watch Dogs. *sigh*

I am getting away with playing it on a slightly nerfed ultra setting, and keeping motion blur off.

My i5 strolls along at about 60% usage. My HD 7870 is been given a pretty hard time however.
It looks like you do need 3gig vram to use the ultra textures, that setting is crippling.

The bit thats giving me issues is finding an AA mode I can use. Even on 2x it looks abit jagged. Guess it will have to do, my card can't handle any more lol

I have a 1440x900 monitor, so I'll downscale from 1080p much better, such beautiful wow.

I have settled for bog standard 2xAA, keeping 1080p res.

Everything else on ultra/max except:
textures set to high (I have 2gb vram so best I can do)
Motion blur off: (I dont like it, plus I figure it saves abit of gpu power)
Ambiant Occlusion: MHBAO+low (putting it on high only seems to shave off 2 fps or so)
Spent the 2fps above putting the AA on x2

that gets me 25-35fps. Perfectly playable.
Time to look into a new gfx card I guess.

System ram hovers around 7.5 gb usage.

Seems a good quad core is all you need. My i5 is hardly distressed.

Well, until I order a few gfx card, its that or lower the graphic settings or resolution. Which I refuse to do. In times of trouble I go back to my old standard of squeezing as much graphical prowess out of the game/pc as I can while keeping it playable.

Lowing the resolution down from 1080p is just so... console peasantry... no offense ;)

I'd be interested to know how your i3 with that big 780 fairs. It doesn't seem cpu heavy from what I can tell so far, so you might get some love for 2cores/4 threads :)

Agreed. In the TechSpot review, only the GTX 780 can power Ultra textures with 3GB; every other 3GB or less card suffers >10 FPS drop over a model with just an extra GB of VRAM.

Just to add in an extra point after a day messing around with the game. The AMD beta drivers released today are worth almost a 10fps increase !
I get around 50fps now with slightly improved settings.

For me,
with
i5 4440; 8GB RAM ; Intel HD 4600(integrated GPU with 512 MB Dedicated memory)
@ 1280 *720 (720p)
and custom configured Graphics with everything mostly high and the rest at medium and high texture quality ,
I still find no lag @ constant 12-15 fps
