I'm looking to build my first ever gaming rig and iv already picked out all of the parts besides the GPU. Now originally i was going to go with the MSI lightning N780 graphics card and its still my absolute favorite but iv been reading reviews on kit guru and they have been praising recently sapphires new vapor x r9-290 tri color x. and well the R9 is 100 dollars cheaper than the GTX so i am curious on what is going to be the best performance? i was ready and set with my MSI but if i can get a card that's better and save 100 dollars it sounds kinda silly to me to get the MSI. I will be setting this up on my 55 inch plasma tv until i purchase the Samsung UHD monitor so i also want to know how well either of there two will stack up when i throw 4k graphics at them? thank you!

the R9 290 is much better value, and if the tri-x is $100 cheaper, it is defiantly the best option. both the R9 290 and GTX 780 take blows in different areas so you can;t go wrong with either choice, though the extra 1GB GDDR5 video ram and wider bus is defiantly something to think about, it is a quite good card to max out games now and in the future also, the best option.

@ 4k, both will struggle at ultra gaming, you'll need two of them to suffice that. I am going 4k with my R9 290X, but will need to get two to have the best experience at playable FPS, as it has four times the pixels of a 1080p monitor, nearly 4x as hard the GPU has to try.
