This is a 2007 15-inch MacBook Pro. Screen is black, no sound when pressing power button. I can hear something running or humming under the right front of the laptop, right where a cd or DVD would run. Tried re-setting, disconnected battery, using power cord, nothing works. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

If you're talking right front of the laptop, that is the location of your laptop's hard drive. Chances are you may have a failing harddrive, which is likely due to the age of the Macbook. Do you have an OSX recovery disk/USB?

Have you attempted a SMC reset?
Or a PRAM reset?

If those dont work try resitting your ram chips. Also disconnect your CD drive and harddrive. If your feeling geeky try testing everything one by one.

If nothing try the resets again perhaps something was loose.

Even if no Hard drive is connected there should be a white screen not a black one as far as my knowledge goes. But this is apple so try another HD.

I think had this issue occured much sooner withen 4 years of purchase you would have been eligble for a motherboard replacement. Hopefully this scenario isint it but you are most likely victim to a failing GPU and/or motherboard.

Also, did this occur randomly? were you updating did you spill liquid?

Hope you figure it out!

Sounds like the battery is flat and the machine is sleeping. Have you checked that :p

If by flat you mean not charged, then that isn't it because OP said he/she tried using the power cord. Even if the battery has no more charging abilities or there is another kind of battery failure, I'm pretty sure all laptops can run on the charger's power alone. I know my laptop works fine plugged into the charger even with the battery completely removed :)  It's probably another kind of hardware malfuntion. Could be anything from the motherboard to the display.
