MSI computer won't boot after exiting bios

I just built a new, very basic computer, using an MSI H81M-P33 motherboard with an intel celeron 1850 processor, a single 2GB patriot RAM stick, and a Seagate 500 GB hard drive. The computer will boot fine and I can get into the bios and make any adjustments I like (I have yet to install an OS). When I exit the bios and am given the option to save and restart, when I click "YES" the computer seems to restart but at that point nothing will boot. No image will be shown on the monitor (which will go into standby mode) and the only way to remedy it is to do a hard reset, at which point the computer will boot and I can get into the BIOS again - with all my changes saved. Was wondering what would cause this behavior and if there is anything to do to remedy it. The only things changed in the BIOS were the system time and boot sequence to boot from the optical DVD-RW first then the HDD - all other boot options were disabled.

Maybe, but it keeps the time just fine. When I first started the computer after building it, the time and date were off, it said it was around 8 am on May 27th, but it was actually about 6 pm on May 26th. The time doesn't reset, nor do any other settings, which I would expect with a bad CMOS battery.
