downscaling on large 1080p display vs large 4k display

I understand that obviously the 4k display would have more pixel density but I've been experimenting with downscaling in games on my 34" and it seems to negate the need for a 4k display. What Im asking is at the distance you would usually sit from a 50-60" display would you notice the difference between native 3840x2160 vs downscaled 3840x2160?

thanks for responding so quickly. Im not sure if I mentioned it but Ive never owned anything bigger than a 34" so I wouldn't know what's optimal for me. I was just wondering particularly for games if buying a 4k monitor is plausible when you can downscale 4k on a 1080p monitor. Its a hard question to answer Im guessing if you havent experimented. I'll try for myself and see

most pc gamers shoot for 1080p or 1440p if you have that resolution of monitor. downscaling allows you to achieve higher resolutions on monitors that don't support them. So I can broadcast 4k on my 1080p monitor and see the difference in quality mostly when it comes to AA.
