I have a a-8 6600k APU with a r9 290.
I am also running on a solid state drive.
Is it normal for a r9 290 to run at such low fps???

More about : 290 running low setting arma 25fps

no, is this in multyplayer?
try the editor and check your fps
I have a R9 290 and i7 4770 I can run arma 3 on 3 monitors at 5960x1080 50Fps but in multyplayer the frames can dip realy low I´ve heared that it happens on bad servers with a low ping not helping either.

Arma 3 is a tough game to run even with a r9 290 but that is not your big problem. The biggest problem is your Processor does not have enough speed to feed the card. You need something more like a 8320,8350 i5 or i7 to feed that card. That cpu would be okay running something like a r9 270.

Your CPU is very, very weak. Why even get an APU to pair with a dGPU instead of even a low-end dedicated CPU (i3 or FX-4xxx)?

The cpu ( processor) is your problem there, get an i5

I have a 8320, Tri-x r9 290, nothing overclocked and Arma 3 is HORRIBLE online. Standing still it looks CLEAN! But when you move that mouse its bad. Playable, but less enjoyable. Ive tried all the settings, crap on youtube with change file numbers and properties and still trash. bf2 PR runs like butter, cs-go i get eeeeasy 120+fps. Thinking Arma was gonna look great... SYKE! I dont have bf4 and waiting for hardline. But im sure it will run that with no problem. Next im going to OC the cpu, hopefully get it stable at 4.2 or 4.4 and OC the card a bit and see if there is a difference. So far I like PR better than Arma3 because of the teamwork, so at this point im in no rush to get it running fine. U get yours running?

Yes I did. I'm not a computer expect but over the months I've found that the AMD CPU's are not as good as Intel, I've got a i5 4670k with my r9 290 gaming edition and I get 45fps on multiplayer with 100 people on the server.

So this makes me believe it could be down to your CPU.

I believe we were talking about r9 290, nvidia 660ti is a completely different card.
