Just purchased a GTX 770. Seems to be working great, however in GPU-Z even after I run the rendering test it tells me it's only running at x8. I have an ASUS Rampage Formula III motherboard which supports up to x16 (however it's only 2.0 but I'm okay with that for now).

I'm not entirely sure why this is happening. Any idea what might be wrong here or what I can do?

Thanks a lot! :)

Perhaps GPU-Z is showing you 'PCI-E 3.0 x8'? If that's the case, it's technically correct. PCI-E 2.0 x16 is pretty much equivalent to PCI-E 3.0 x8.

No, it's running at 2.0 x8.

The mobo supports 2.0 x 16, though

Yes, I have an ASUS Xonar Essence STX sound card in the top slot with the GPU in the second slot

Well that's your issue. The GPU is meant to be in the top slot, as the second slot, in your case, will run at x8.

Was about to ask this, the first slot will be x16, second x8 and maybe x4 for the third.
