how can i boot new pata drive on xp

Install a new OS to it. Install the optical disk into the drive and then...
either press the F-key that corresponds to "Select boot device" when you power-on followed by your cd/dvd
or
enter the bios and set the cd/dvd drive to be the first boot device. And then Save and reboot.
