I have a stock y510p with the 1TB HDD and 24GB SATA, 8GB RAM, NVidia GT755m x2, Intel i7-4700MQ. I'm looking to upgrade to a SSD but dont know if I should replace the 1TB HDD or the smaller 24GB to a larger volume. I also want to upgrade the to 16GB but not sure of what make and model to use. I like to game and need a strong multi task platform.

If you do this I would also take advantage of IRST acceleration. You can use up to 64GB of your SSD as a cache for the 1TB HDD. I absolutly love it in my desktop and the y510P is cabable of doing it. Also as for the conversion from old SSD to new put both drives in a desktop computer and clone them. ive found that that is the best way to do it. This way you dont lose your windows install. and if your windows install is on your 1TB HDD clone that one to the new SSD and use it as your OS drive.

The 1TB HDD is a 2.5" HD and the SSD is a mSata SSD that newegg link will bring you to the mSatas

Get -DDR3L- RAM. The key letter there is the 'L' (Up to 16GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz)

Upgrade the 24 GB SSD.

I have no idea about SSDs
